Car Rider Procedures

Morning Drop-Off:

Student drop-off may begin at 8:15 am as teachers are on-duty for student safety and supervision.

Orange cones are placed at the school’s third/main entrance at 8:15 am each morning. Please proceed down towards SMMHS to the last Nolan entrance and turn left into the drive just before entering the middle/high school campus for car rider drop-off.

Cars will pull all the way down past the front entrance to the cone where staff and/or safety patrol are directing. Several cars will unload at once and students will proceed into the building through the front doors. Please have students ready to exit with their belongings by themselves each morning to keep the flow of our morning traffic. To ensure the safety of our children, please do not pull out of line while children are still unloading. Follow the car in front of you through the line and out the exit.

Afternoon Pick-Up:
We will have two carlines for 2022-2023. The white line and the green line.
At the Registration Fair & Meet Your Teacher Day on August 5, 8:30-10am, your family will be assigned to pick up at either the green or white carline.

Car riders must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after school dismisses. Remaining students will be checked into the aftercare program, and SACC registration and daily rates will apply. Please have your Nolan car tags visible to assist our teachers with loading. This is especially helpful on rainy days!

Absolutely no parking in the main front entrance of the school after 3:00 p.m., as we must keep this area clear for buses. If you need to dismiss your child early from school, please park in the back of the side lot, so as to not block the 3-5 pickup lines. Walk into the main entrance and sign your child out in the office.

WHITE LINE: Please turn onto Sam Powell Drive using the right outside lane. Proceed to the last Nolan entrance on the left, before the Middle-High School Campus. Please pull all the way up to the orange cones in either the left or right lane. This ensures we can fit as many cars as possible in the lines. Do not pull ahead or out of the line until the teacher has motioned for you to do so.

GREEN LINE: Please turn onto Sam Powell Drive using the left inside turn lane. Immediately turn left off of Sam Powell Drive, to the side parking lot, in the left or right pickup lane beside the school. Once recess has been dismissed, the lines may move up slightly. Please do not park and leave your car unattended during this time. Please do not block the designated pedestrian walkways. Once pickup has begun, proceed ahead when directed, and exit the back of the school back onto Shackleford Ridge in your appropriate lane. Do not pull ahead or out of the line until the teacher has motioned for you to do so.

School History

Dr. and Mrs. Nolan

Because of years of faithful service Paul and Anne Nolan have given our community, Signal Mountain will never be the same. Hours of recognition could never convey our deep respect, admiration, and appreciation for a couple who has helped establish such high standards in education.

There is a determination in this community to continue the progress which had its beginning during their years of service. In 1966 Dr. Nolan began his tenure in the Hamilton County Quarterly Court where he served until 1978. He served the State of Tennessee in the House of Representatives from 1968-1970. In 1982 he joined the Hamilton County Commission where he served in several capacities until 1998. A very important part of his public service has been education and children’s services. Dr. Nolan wanted to ensure that all children receive a quality education.

Mrs. Anne Nolan served the Town of Signal Mountain as both commissioner and Mayor from 1979-1987. While being a mother to their three children, she was active in the community and Signal Mountain Baptist Church. She was honored by being selected as “Woman of the Year” on Signal Mountain.

Nolan Song

-written by Mrs. Kathy Taylor’s and Mrs. Peggy Willingham’s classes in 2000

Growing up today takes courage all the way
This world that we’re in needs all of you and me!
Standing here united with care for one another
The road that’s ahead can be conquered with pride.

Let ’em say we’re crazy, we don’t care about that!
Put you hand in our hands, my friend,
Don’t ever look back!
Let responsibility guide the way,
Add a little honesty and watch it pay.

CHORUS:
Well, we are Nolan Elementary,
Students of the century,
Nothing’s gonna stop us now.
And if this world begins to crumble
Reach out, help each other
Feel the spirits movin’
Nothing’s gonna stop us now!

I’m so glad we’re learning, character that’s yearning
To gain your respect is important to me
We’ll take you through the good times
Hang in with the bad times
Be firm in beliefs is what we’re gonna do!

Let ’em say we’re crazy, we don’t care about that!
Put you hand in our hands, my friend,
Don’t ever look back!
A little kindness from me to you
Makes you feel like dancin’ in whatever you do!

[CHORUS]
